ROSE Plants : Things to do from Buying Rose Plant onwards -Part-I

Roses – Part I
Things to do Immediately.

1. Choosing a spot – Partial Sun for min 2 weeks
– leave them in a place which receives indirect to direct morning sun(one to 2 hours)or direct evening sun with partial shade in between-during afternoons(sun in the afternoon is harsh).
– aerated/ventilated spaces are preferred as roses love good aeration and this also helps in pest control like mites and mildew in winters.

-Cut the blooms immediately below the 3 leaf node and by disbudding, this directs the plant to invest all its energy in surving any environmental change and in thriving but not on flowering(I know it’s hard to pinch off the buds but trust the process! And keep patience!).

2. Watering – Be Consistent and Periodic( similar to same amount of water and during the same time of the day)
– Water them thoroughly till you see extra water draining out, preferably in the evenings when sun goes down but not in complete darkness. You can also mist/shower your rose plants occasionally before watering to keep your leaves healthy and shiny! and free from mites

3.Transplant – After 2 or 3 weeks
-It is advisable not to transplant immediately, as roses ( especially when you are a beginner) need enough time( minimum of 1 week to 3 weeks) to adjust in your environment.
And in the meanwhile, it’s advisable to start procuring everything needed for transplantion while keeping a close scrutiny on the plants for any signs of shock and die back problems( which is the most common problem in roses).
For an example
1.Soil Mix And Bio-Pesticides.
2.Containers.
3.Tools, If needed.

This will be elaborated well in the upcoming posts in this rose series.
