CTG Member Poonam Bhide – Methods of Gardening

Like everybody else here, I started with potting mix and organic sprays for pest control as they were being discussed on gardening groups.

In the mean time, I learnt the importance of feeding the soil from sustainable farming groups.

Almost immediately after that I came across the following two methods of natural farming, 1. Rishi krishi method and then 2. zero budget natural farming of Subhash Palekar. The first method I adopted for my terrace garden and the second for my ground garden. Since then (seven years) I neither need potting mix nor pest control methods like sprays. Only my bitter gourd on the ground still gets fruitflies sometimes. Viral attacks I control using turmeric and garlic to drench soil. Use bio-fertilizers/pesticides in the ground garden after every flood.
And even in those cases I am working only on improving the soil.

Working on the soil, feeding soil, means turning organic matter into nutritious soil. The other two activities I do every day in my garden is sow/plant and harvest.
And this economy of work in the garden was guided by my professional skills in learning.

Learning well means not just being able to learn quickly and lot but to learn that which works better and also it means to quickly unlearn something that is not working well on the ground.

@Harkara who added me to this group did approach me very respectfully to take on greater responsibilities on the group but I had to decline owing to my other engagements in life.

I personally feel the need to give back to the internet based gardening groups all that I learnt in them, my professional expertise in human learning process automatically gets added while responding here🙂 so it seems కొత్త/వింత to you. Hope your curiosity is satisfied now Durga Kiran gaaru.

If understanding my writing is difficult please request group members to translate it into Telugu.
