CITY OF TERRACE GARDENS (CTG)

CITY OF TERRACE GARDENS (CTG) was founded in the year 2019 at Hyderabad, India by Srinivas Harkara, originally as a small group for procuring STRAWBERRY SAPLINGS and grow them organically on Terraces or Balconies. Strawberry fruits are loved a lot by younger generation but saplings cost was exorbitanty high. Fruits available in the market are also costly. The concept of group purchase of strawberry saplings was a super Hit. Several new, budding and young gardeners expressed their intention to continue the group. Some experienced gardeners who became members of the group have also requested the Founder not to close the group and to continue the group, having been impressed by his creative ideas and the expert panel which is guiding the group. The aim and goal is simple: Bangalore is known as Garden City. There is no city which is known as “Terrace Garden city” When every home, be it a Balcony or a Terrace or a Front/Back Yard, if it can have an organic Food Space, then Hyderabad will be called as “City of Terrace Gardens”. Many people have expressed that its too ambitious. However, the Founder, Srinivas Harakra, believed in the concept and thus the name “CITY OF TERRACE GARDENS”. Organic urban farming and terrace gardening are encouraged to create a platform for this generation. Several Farm Visit activities, many workshops/live sessions are organized to make terrace gardening , the darling of every house hold in almost all parts of the city and twin states in particular.
Srinivas Harkara, is a practicing Advocate in the Supreme Court and also in the High Courts at Hyderabad and Amaravathi.
He is born in a Farmer’s family, hails from Ramagundam village, in Peddapalli District, Telangana. He possesses a post graduate degree in Agrl Sciences apart from a post graduate degree in Law. He evinces great interest in Natural/organic farming and is helping the farming community for making Agriculture/ Horticulture sustainable. He has shown deep commitment towards developing Terrace Gardening and regularly organizes Live programs which are off great help to Terrace Gardeners.

How it Started

The idea of starting CTG group did not strike in a day or two. The Journey was long. There is nothing in Hyderabad that is pure and hygienic. Air is polluted, water is polluted, Milk Quality is very bad… Vegetables are not fresh and nutritious. The Source of the vegetables is not known. Which farmers produced the veggies or leafies is not known. Veggies/Leafies you buy in the market are treated with chemicals and fertilizers are not organically/naturally grown. Even though they are shown as Organic, they may be fake, you never know. The amount of pesticides or fertilizers used on them is not known to you. All these things have an overall impact on your Health leading to health hazards.

If every family is able to grow their own vegetables organically/naturally or leafy greens without using any chemicals, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, weedicides, herbicides, what more is required… It leads to good health and Healthy Living.. In cities like Hyderabad, normally Land is not easily available to do Farming.. Even if land is available, the costs are too high to to buy or even to take them on long lease. Keeping all these things, in view came into existence, the City of Terrace Gardens (CTG).

Today, World is facing Turbulent Times, being deeply hurt by Covid-19, Only way is to enjoy a Healthy Living. Chemical free/Pesticide free food is possible when every home is able to grow Food organically in their available space, be it a Balcony/Terrace/Backyard/Front yard etc. CITY OF TERRACE GARDENS group is created with the sole objective to see every home grow healthy food/vegetables needed for the family. “Eat What you Grow-Grow What you Eat”
